Our Story
“I wanted to create items of innate value and quality that could not be replicated in ‘fast fashion’, the sort of clothes that remain in your wardrobe for years simply because of their beauty and your emotional attachment to them.”
- Supei, Founder of Su By Hand

Our Journey
In 2019, Supei relocated back home to Singapore after an extensive international career as womenswear designer for fashion houses spanning China, Hong Kong and Spain. Her exposure to excessive waste in the industry and “how little innate value these clothing have, given the high mark-ups, poor fabrics and lack of originality” inspired her vision for fashion that is emotive, authentic and ultimately guided by slow fashion principles.
A passion project takes root
Starting with “Fragments Make One Whole”, a capsule of artisanal, hand-dyed one-offs, Su By Hand was borne from a passion project in reaction to the fast fashion system.
“I do not believe that we need more brands. But I do feel strongly the need to create a more sustainable attitude towards fashion consumption.”

Slow fashion principles
We believe that it is only through taking a slow fashion approach, with attention to process, materials and craftsmanship, that we are able to internalise value and evoke the emotions necessary for a sustainable mindset shift.
This is at the heart of everything we do, from design to how we communicate with our customers. Education and product transparency is always prioritised over a hyped marketing approach.
Nature is our endless source of inspiration.
Nature inspires our aesthetics; while honesty and sustainability underline our core values.
From fluid drapes and asymmetric details to botanical dyes, our signature styles celebrate handmade and beauty in imperfection.
“Nature always…knows where and when to stop. There is measure in all natural things – in their size, speed, or violence. As a result, the system of nature… tends to be self-balancing, self-adjusting, self-cleansing.”
